Mourning the Loss of Quiet
I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio lately recording the new season of the podcast, and to be honest, it has left me feeling a bit worn out. I titled this season "I Hate Real Estate," and as I’ve been digging and creating the episode scripts, I’ve realized that my frustration isn't really with the houses or even the industry itself - it’s with the noise. There is a weight to this work that is being lost and as I look around at how loud everything has become I think I’m just mourning the loss of a little bit of quiet. Maybe you are too.
We’ve entered an era where vibes and attention seem to matter more than the actual duty we owe to one another. I see it in real estate, where contracts are slid across tables as casual checkboxes just to "get to the fun part" of seeing homes, but I see it everywhere else too. It feels like we are living through a giant beauty pageant where everyone is auditioning for a role rather than performing a professional service. When the world treats its promises as a nuisance or a formality, the human connection at the center of it is what ends up paying the price. It’s exhausting to navigate a world where you have to constantly wonder if someone is actually looking out for you or just looking for an audience.
I’m sharing this because I think we all feel the noise right now. Real estate is just one area where the volume has been turned up so high that it drowns out the substance. I’ve always believed that the most important work happens in the quiet, steady moments. The parts that don't make it onto an Instagram feed or a headline. Buying a home is an incredibly vulnerable financial move but it’s also a deeply personal one. You deserve to feel like the person standing next to you values your stability more than the performance of the deal. There is a certain kind of peace that comes from cutting through the static and just focusing on what is true.
I’m still here because I believe there is a better way to live and work - one that values the person over the transaction and the truth over the "vibe." If you’re looking at the world right now and feeling like it’s all become a production you didn't ask to be a part of, I'm right there with you. I’m always happy to be a quiet place to land if you have questions or just want a clear-eyed look at what’s actually happening. I don't have all the answers for the noise of the world but I’m committed to making sure my corner of it stays focused on what matters.
Best,
Rychen
